When you join Akrunners, you become part of Alaska’s premier running community. We are striving to serve as many runners and walkers, youth to seniors all throughout Alaska.
Alaska Runners Club is a member-based organization centered around running, and our efforts and activites serve all runners and active individuals, from beginners to professional athletes: the young, the elderly, and the underserved of all abilities.
It is our unique nonprofit model, which teams contributions from corporate, foundation, and individual donors with earned income from our best-in-class events, that makes all our efforts possible.
Together with the help of all Alaska Runners Club members, supporters, participants, and partners, we’re working hard to fulfill our mission of giving all people everywhere a reason to run. Today, tomorrow, and for life.
Running clubs in Alaska welcome runners of all ages and abilities. Each of the local clubs has its own unique history, purpose, membership profile, and goals. Please contact individual clubs about memberships. Alaska Runners Club is proud to serve as an umbrella organization for local clubs, providing weekly races, an annual team-points series in two open and three masters categories for both men and women, and monthly Club Council meetings. Although AKRC membership is not required to join a local running club, many clubs encourage it.
Endurance for Kids is a new project by AKRC recognizing the need to help city kids become more physically active. The goal of all our youth programs is to equip children with the tools they need to become physically fit for life, in programs that focus on goal-setting skills, character-enrichment, and nutrition education.
Our goal is to have more than 500 Endurance for Kids runners log miles in most local running events held throughout the year. Supported by AKRC Elite coaches, Endurance for Kids alumni mentors, and friendly Endurance for Kids staff members, these generous athletes enjoy special race-day perks and personalized training plans. Endurance for Kids has multiple rewards. There’s the pleasure of raising funds for a truly worthy cause. There is the unique camaraderie, on and off the course, which comes from having trained together for several months. And finally, there is the amazing feeling of being in a long race and running past cheering stations full of enthusiastic kids who know you are running for them.
All funds raised through Endurance for Kids benefit Alaska Runners Club youth services, which represent a Local and State effort to transform the lives of tens of thousands of children, many of whom have no access to the regular physical activity they need to live healthy, productive lives.
AKRC events truly could not happen without our volunteers! There are many ways to get involved.
Volunteering at an AKRC events is the perfect way to give back, connect with your community, and get inspired before your next race!
Bring a Group
We are recruiting new Team Leaders who will organize groups of volunteers to work at AKRC races and events. These volunteer teams will have prioritized access to volunteer opportunities in our large races. Volunteer groups could come from youth groups, schools, service clubs, athletic teams, church groups, or companies. If you are interested in being a Team Leader for any of our upcoming races, the first step is to submit an application, and we’ll follow up with more information. E-mail your completed application to firstname.lastname@example.org If you have any questions, please e-mail us at email@example.com
